Inspired by the rich theatre scene (and a local TV station's “Big Money Movie”) found in his home town of Seattle, Kelly embarked on a journey as an actor. The starting point on the journey included starring roles in campus productions and work at the Tony award winning Seattle Rep. The range of plays encompassed the world premiere of The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, Marat/ Sade, I Never Sang for my Father and Macbeth. While majoring in Theatre at the University of Washington he was a member of the prestigious BFA Professional Actors Training Program as well as a member of their BA Department.
Since heeding the siren's call and relocating to Los Angeles, he's become active in the diverse film, theatre and voice-over community in L.A. In some cases he's worn the hats of both director and producer. As a member and/or associate of many leading L.A. theatre companies, he's had the pleasure to perform a range of leading roles in classical, contemporary and musical theatre (including three different productions of My Fair Lady playing Prof. Higgins, whew!). Film work has found him playing a range of characters from drug lord, billionaire mogul, police detective, husband/father, an other-worldly sage and a love struck beachcomber.
Favorite film projects include indie sci-fi adventure: The Alpha System. A thriller: In The Company of Strangers. A web series: The Tesla Archives. A couple comedy shorts: A Portrait of a Girl and A Scene with Dialogue and a police drama: Retribution. His voice-over work can be heard playing multiple characters in eight episodes of the cartoon series Olivia the Pig. Keeping the 'instrument' tuned is important and when not working he can sometimes be found studying with Los Angeles' award winning Anteaus Theatre Co. in one of their amazing classical and or contemporary theatre workshops.
